Warning: I have never played DayZ online, I don't have a good enough internet connection... So, I just installed this and played for a few hours... until I died. Wow, this is awesome (in comparison to "Ultimate")! Here I was strolling along, thinking, "Dang, I really need to find something to drink. I'm lost, no map, nothing! At least there's no zombies around..." ZIP CRACK... ZIP ZIP ZOOoo.. and I'm on a full out run into the woods. I should say that it scared the crap out of me, sitting in bed, laptop on my lap, and I jumped (heart racing and not knowing what to do). I ran for the nearest woods, ran for a good long while before I decided to find a building to try and find something to drink, heal, maybe a weapon... anything better than the gas can, flares, heatpacks, and a single crossbow bolt (the bolt i took from a dead zombie I stumbled upon). So I looked for somewhere to go, I see a barn in the distance so I stayed inside the treeline and kept heading towards it. ZIP ZIP CRACK... "WTF?! You got to be kidding!" I yelled as I started running again! I realized was tracked down after running for a good long stretch, by the same guy that wounded me before! It didn't matter, I had to find somewhere to hide, so I ran for the barn, I ran around it, right into the open doors, blurred vision and all I climbed the steps and laid down in the corner. I thought I might survive when he came in, poked around and left... after maybe 5 minutes or more I decided that maybe I should adjust my position so that maybe he wouldn't see me if he came back... it did't do any good at all, he came back a few minutes later, searching around, saw me anyway... Needless to say, I fell prey to the suited man in black. He shot the heck out of me until I was out cold, the I came to, and he came back and finished me off! I had to come and share my first experience with the AI, definitely way cooler than I had expected. It did what it was meant to do... scare the crap out of a 32 year old man. I will definitely be putting some hours into this game! One thing I would like to know: I have had some hours of playing in and haven't run across any Survivors, I have seen a Bandit shooting at something, but I couldn't see what he was shooting at, because I thought if I hid maybe he wouldn't see me, but he turned right toward me after he killed whatever he was shooting and shot me too. (I am running the "Regular" mission, with no other addons, which has been fun, but hard because I have only found a weapon 1 time, some food and pain killers, but no water or soda yet... I'm going to start saving more, so I can keep going.)

I always love to read people's stories, especially when they're good. Thank you for sharing! And about the survivors, I think Haleks set them up so that you have to figure who's friendly or not, and then walk up to them and scroll to "Recruit" and recruit them! Again, awesome story! |

So, is there any ETA on the update for 1.8? I really love DayZ SP and the 1.8 update would go well with it.

I have put about 30 hours or so into this game now, and I have made some awesome advancement from never having played DayZ before. After playing SP, I played the online MP DayZ (I am completely disgusted by the way people played on every server I tried, needless to say, children and MMO games are not a good mix). So, I went back to playing DaiZy. I have found some survivors, recruited them, and learned how to work with them... they are extremely valuable assets. I have had a hard time trying to heal them, and equip them (they do seem to heal when I told them to hold fire, stop and regroup (but idk if that's just them resting eating or what). I would like to see them fleshed out more, that would give so much to the game. If some were unique, and maybe brought something to the table, it would be awesome (maybe journal entries, or even better yet, a unique set of missions that if followed could provide needed equipment, help rebuild vehicles, knows the location of other survivors that know the location of bandit strongholds... you get my drift). I have found a pickup truck (needs lotsa repairs), killed a number of bandits, finally got a compass, then hours later a map. I found that saving OFTEN is the best way to keep forward progress (just because there might be some random AI lurking for a kill in the middle of me doing something with a purpose in mind). I like how brutal the world is, and I'm glad I can save it where I want because, unlike most online DayZ servers the world isn't populated with fully repaired vehicles, and many of the nice little easy things that require so much effort. All bugs aside, I love DaiZy and I'll be putting plenty of hours into it, thats for sure!

BTW, for some reason my Temp is stuck solid red, and don't effect me at all.

Is anyone else unable to control friendly AI after a save? They won't respond to any commands.

@usmc3891,
It isnt Daizy/Dayz that causes these silly problems - Arma2 is buggy as hell! The game has had so many patches over the years as well. I hope A3 will be a lot better although I baulk at paying £40 for a beta. :( |

Working on updating this to 1.8 I hope?
|
Sadly I'm not working on it right now... Not to mention that I'll be away in October. To be honest, I dunno if I'm gonna update this to 1.8 : I still have some long-term performance issues to fix and porting dayz to daizy can be time consuming... That being said, I'll most likely take some time in November and see how fast/easy it could be done. |

You can most likely just use the unlock shit from 1.7.7.1. ;O |

So I'm having a great time with the mod and there's a little story I'd like to share:
I was making my way from Dolina to the factory north of it when I first became aware of a helicopter. It seemed to just circle the area and didn't spot me, although I did notice at least one person manning the guns, so I decided to play it safe and not reveal myself. I explored the factory and eventually made my way over to Polana and after that Gorka - all the while the helicopter was making its rounds around the area. While leaving Gorka with Novy Sobor as my destination the ground next to me suddenly exploded with bullets. Yep, they finally spotted me. In lieu of a sufficiently strong ranged weapon (or any for that matter) I had to run across open spaces and take cover behind trees whenever possible (which I couldn't always), all the while the helicopter performed its strafing runs. With no way to fight back I finally reached Novy Sobor and made my way through the town. No ranged weapons far and wide until I spotted a bandit. After a lot of cat and mouse (and several reloads, I'm not ashamed to admit) I finally managed to axe him and take his FN-FAL with three mags. Thus armed I made my way over to the deer stand north of NS and took aim. It took two mags, but I was finally awarded with a satisfying explosion, as the helicopter crashed into the ground (in other iterations I managed to do the same thing, only to die via secondary explosions while inspecting the wreckage, twice I managed to force a landing (whether by damaging it enough while being close to the ground or killing the pilot, I can't say) only to be killed by the bandits who got out). Great fun. Question: would they have eventually run out of fuel or ammo for the guns? Or do AI units have infinite resources (i.e. fuel, food, ammo)? I'm not running any of the optional files, as I wanted to see what the game is like without them. I like how the AI isn't just cannon fodder but as close as you can come to a real human bandit, without it being human. |
I have had a couple of survivors, they have to have infinite ammo. I have had a chopper/bandits shoot at me for over an hour... they seem to only have a limited amount of ammo when you kill them and check their gear out... they won't have clips, but they will have a full weapon. Just to note: make sure you have a antibiotic if you use a blood bag found on a bandit. It will heal you, but they like to try to trick you with giving you infected blood!

How much work would adding like 20 unique Survivors be? I would love to give something to this mod, but I don't know where I would begin, I think possibly fleshing out some survivors for an addon to DaiZy would be something that almost all the players would like. Lol, that would make protecting certain survivors a priority, because if they die...

For some reason I am missing a build script. Well, that's what the game shows when I tried to build something.

Yeah, I managed to recruit myself two survivors just now and they really do have infinite ammo. Unfortunately they both have shotguns and like to engages z's at rifle range *sigh* I'm also a bit confused about how to install the recommended mods. Do I just copy the files into the @DaiZyFACTIONS folder or do I place them in their respective @-folders in the Arrowhead directory? EDIT: Nvm, figured it out :) |

That's a really good story! I love when you're "fucked" and have to run to the closest village to get what you need, and then just maybe you're able to manage your mission. As far as fuel/ammo goes, it should be the same as for players. Unless Haleks gave them any extra feature. I think the function for helis goes if on then drain fuel. No matter who's flying it. |
Since that first helicopter I encountered two more. The first crashed and burned like its predecessor, so no loot to be had there. With the second however I actually managed to kill all the occupants (well, me and my five survivor buddies) while the helicopter was close to the ground, so it landed safely.
Long story short: I now own a fully functional helicopter \o/ I also acquired a DRM from one of the occupants (amongst other things). I'm not much of a pilot myself, but the AI seems able enough at handling it. Me just telling it where to move seems to do the trick. Unfortunately I haven't figured out how to get it to land the heli in a designated spot. All I manage to do is tell the pilot to disembark, which makes him land, but usually ends up crashing into trees or buildings, no matter how much open space there is *sigh* I also found a Humvee at the gas station west of Chernogorsk and am in the process of fixing it up. So things are definitely looking up for me. |

Haha, NICE! I usually try to headshot the pilot, because it's a more fun shot to make, in my opinion. About ordering the pilot AI, I got on clue how you do this. I haven't messed much with friendly AI, but 1-9 (not the numpad stuff) does different things, maybe that could help? |
The only way I've been able to get an AI Survivor safely land a helicopter is to have another AI Survivor on the ground, order that AI to board the chopper (4 gets you the vehicle command menu with a team member selected), and when the helicopter gets nice and low, order the pilot to disembark. Otherwise, they tend to head right for a nearby forest to set down in. On Wed, Oct 2, 2013 at 10:21 PM, Above [via Kodabar DayZ / DaiZy single player forum] <[hidden email]> wrote: Haha, NICE!
