@Nila95 You can save the game, however you mustn't be near any live zombies if you intend to "suspend". Also if you just ended combat with zombies (not sure about bandits), the game would tell you "can abort in 15", which means you just need to wait 15 seconds before you can suspend the game. I hope this answers your question.

Edit: you can also skip the whole "securing the area" part before exiting by using the "player shield" cheat in the custom radio menu.
